This is exactly where Scripture meets you. — Hope in the Bible Is Not Wishful Thinking The word “hope” in the New Testament doesn’t mean what it often means in English. We say “I hope it doesn’t rain” — a wish, uncertain, maybe not likely. Biblical hope is different. The Greek word used most often — elpis — means a confident expectation. Not blind optimism. Grounded confidence in a God who has already proven himself faithful. Romans 15:13 is one of the great hope verses in Scripture: > “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Notice: he is called the God of hope — not just a God who occasionally delivers hope, but the source of it. And the hope he offers isn’t a trickle. It overflows. —

But right now I need more than a verse — I need you to actually fill me with what you’re promising. So I’m asking. Fill me. Not with false cheerfulness or a pretend feeling that everything is fine. Fill me with the kind of hope that holds on even when the circumstances don’t change. I trust you. Even when it’s hard. Amen. — When Hope Deferred Makes You Sick Proverbs 13:12 captures something that anyone in a long wait will recognize: > “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” God is not naive about what long waiting does to a person. He put that verse in the Bible. He knows that hope delayed doesn’t just disappoint — it drains. It makes your heart sick. If that’s where you are — heart-sick from waiting — you’re not failing at faith. You’re experiencing something Scripture names and validates. And the second half of that verse matters too: a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. The waiting ends. Things are restored. That day comes. —
