Prayer is just talking to God. That’s it.
It’s not a performance. It’s not a test. You don’t need special words, a special posture, or a special place. You don’t need to have your life together. If you can talk to a friend, you can pray.
Why Pray?
If God already knows everything, why bother?
Because prayer isn’t about informing God — it’s about connecting with Him. It’s bringing your real life into His presence. Prayer changes you. It gives you peace. It helps you see things differently. And sometimes — not always, but sometimes — it changes your circumstances too.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6
How to Start: The ACTS Framework
If you’ve never prayed before, here’s a simple structure that Christians have used for centuries:
A — Adoration. Start by acknowledging who God is. “God, You are good. You are loving. You are the kind of God I can trust.”
C — Confession. Be honest about where you’ve fallen short. “God, I messed up today. I was impatient. I’m sorry. Thank You for forgiving me.”
T — Thanksgiving. Thank God for something — anything. Your morning coffee. The fact that you woke up today. Gratitude doesn’t deny your problems; it puts them in context.
S — Supplication. This is the asking part. Bring your real requests to God — for yourself and for others. Be specific. He can handle it.

A Simple Prayer to Start With
“God, I don’t know how to do this. But I want to. Thank You for listening. Thank You for not requiring me to be perfect. Please help me talk to You honestly — about the good stuff and the hard stuff. And please help me notice You in my everyday life. I’m starting today. Amen.”
What If You Don’t Feel Anything?
Some days prayer will feel meaningful. Some days it’ll feel like talking to a wall. Both are normal. Both are fine.
Prayer isn’t about feelings. It’s about showing up. Keep showing up. The relationship deepens over time, whether you feel it in the moment or not.
“Pray continually.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
