When Strength Runs Out There are seasons in life when “be strong” is the last thing anyone should say to you — because you have been strong for so long that you cannot remember what it feels like to not be carrying something heavy. Maybe it is a health diagnosis that turned your world upside down. Maybe it is a relationship that is fracturing and you do not know how to fix it. Maybe it is the quiet, grinding exhaustion of providing for a family while your own needs go unmet. Maybe it is fear — plain and simple — about what comes next. A prayer for strength and courage is not about pretending you are fine. It is about admitting you are not — and asking God to hold you up when your own legs are shaking.

A Prayer for Strength

and Courage God, I am tired. I will not pretend otherwise. I have been carrying this weight for longer than I care to admit, and I am running out of strength. But I am still here. And the fact that I am still here means something. It means there is still fight in me — even if it is just a flicker. So I am asking You to breathe on that flicker. Fan it into something that can carry me through this day, this week, this season. Give me the courage to face what I am afraid of. Not the absence of fear — I do not think that is how courage works. Give me the courage to move forward with the fear, to do the hard thing even when every part of me wants to run. When I feel alone, remind me that You are with me. When I feel weak, remind me that Your strength is not dependent on mine. When I feel like giving up, give me one more step. Just one. And then one more after that. I do not need a miracle right now. I just need enough strength for today. And I trust that You will provide it. Amen.

What the Bible Says About Strength

and Courage Scripture does not shy away from human weakness. In fact, it meets us there repeatedly: Joshua 1:9 — “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” God did not promise an easy path. He promised His presence. Isaiah 41:10 — “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” God does not stand at a distance and offer advice. He gets involved. 2 Corinthians 12:9 — “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Weakness is not a barrier to His power. It is the very channel through which it flows.
