A prayer for your enemies — for when someone has genuinely wronged you and Jesus asks the hardest thing: pray for them anyway. These are honest prayers for those difficult moments.
Praying for your enemies is one of the most countercultural things Jesus ever asked of his followers. It goes against instinct. It feels unfair. And if you’ve ever tried to do it with a heart that wasn’t fully in it, you know how hard it can be.
But there’s something quietly transformative about choosing to pray for the people who’ve hurt you — not because they deserve it, but because holding onto bitterness costs you more than it costs them.
These prayers don’t ask you to excuse what was done. They don’t minimize the hurt. They just try to move you toward release.
Prayer for Your Enemies
Lord, I’m going to be honest — this is difficult. There are people in my life who have hurt me, misused me, or spoken against me, and the last thing I naturally want to do is pray for them.
But You told me to. You modeled it from the cross. And so I’m choosing to pray, even when I don’t feel it.
I ask that You would bless them. Not in the shallow way — but in the deep way. That You would meet them in whatever brokenness is driving their behavior. That You would soften them, heal them, bring them to a place of peace.
And as I pray this, Lord, begin to soften me. Take the bitterness. Take the desire for revenge. Replace it with something that looks more like You.
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” — Matthew 5:44
Prayer for When Someone Has Deeply Wronged You
God, I don’t want to pray for this person right now. I want to be honest about that. The wound is still fresh, and praying for them feels like letting them off the hook.
Help me understand that releasing them isn’t the same as approving what they did. It’s not letting them win — it’s refusing to let what they did continue to control me.
I bring this person before You, with all the anger and hurt I feel. I hand it to You. I don’t know how to fix this or move past it on my own, but I trust that You can do something I cannot.
Bring justice where justice is needed. Bring healing where healing is possible. And bring me the peace that comes from choosing Your way over my own.
“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” — Romans 12:17
