A prayer for anger — not watered-down, polite prayers, but honest ones for when you are genuinely, deeply angry. These prayers are for people who need to bring their rage to God.

Anger is not a sin. Scripture is full of people — including God himself — who expressed righteous anger. What matters is what you do with it.

The problem with unexpressed anger is that it tends to find unhealthy exits — passive aggression, bitterness, outbursts at the wrong time and person, or simply burying itself and doing internal damage. These prayers are an invitation to bring the anger directly to God rather than letting it find those other exits.

Prayer When You Are Angry

Lord, I’m angry. Genuinely, deeply angry. I’m not going to dress it up or apologize for it — I’m bringing it to You as it is.

Something happened — or has been happening — that is unjust, or hurtful, or wrong. And I’m furious. The anger feels righteous. It might be. Help me examine it honestly.

I’m bringing this to You because I know what happens when I carry it alone. It turns into something harder and darker. So I’m choosing to give it to You before it turns.

Do whatever you want with this anger. Let it lead me to action where action is needed. Release it where it needs to be released. And don’t let it become bitterness in me.

“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” — Ephesians 4:26

Prayer When Anger Has Turned to Bitterness

God, I think what I’m calling anger has become something more like bitterness. It’s been sitting in me for a while now, and I can feel how it’s affecting the way I see people, the way I approach each day, the way I talk about certain things or certain people.

I want to be free from this. Not just to “be the bigger person” — but because I can feel how much carrying this is costing me.

Do the work in me to release this. Not quickly or superficially, but actually. I can’t manufacture that release on my own. I need Your grace to do it.

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger… Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:31–32
