There are things that chain us that other people can’t always see. An addiction we’ve tried to quit a hundred times. A fear we can’t shake no matter how hard we try. A pattern of sin we keep cycling back to. A heaviness in our spirit that seems to lift for a while, then always returns.
The Bible speaks directly to this kind of bondage — and it speaks of a God who delivers. Psalm 34:17 says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.” Not some of their troubles. All of them.
Deliverance isn’t always a single dramatic moment. For most people, it’s a journey — a daily turning toward God, asking Him again and again to set you free from what grips your soul. He doesn’t grow tired of that prayer.
If you’re carrying something heavy right now — something you haven’t been able to break on your own — these prayers are for you.
A Prayer for Personal Deliverance
Pray this when you’re struggling with bondage, sin, fear, or spiritual oppression.
Lord,
>
I am not free right now. There is something in my life — a habit, a fear, a wound, a darkness — that keeps pulling me back, no matter how hard I try to walk away.
>
I can’t break this in my own strength. I’ve tried. I need You.
>
Your Word says in John 8:36: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” I’m standing on that promise today. I’m asking You to do in me what I cannot do for myself.
>
Deliver me from this bondage. Sever what needs to be cut. Heal what lies beneath the surface. Renew my mind, restore my will, and fill the place where this darkness lived with Your light and Your peace.
>
I choose freedom. I choose You.
>
Amen.
A Prayer for Someone Else Who Needs Deliverance
Pray this when you’re interceding for someone you love who seems trapped.
Father,
>
I lift up [name] to You right now. I can see they’re struggling — held back by something I can’t fix with my own words or help. Only You can reach them where they are.
>
You are the God who breaks chains. Acts 16:26 says that when Paul and Silas prayed, “suddenly the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.” I’m asking for that same power to move in [name]’s life — to walk into their darkness and lead them out.
>
Protect them from lies that keep them trapped. Surround them with people who speak truth. Open a door to freedom that only You can open.
>
I trust them into Your hands.
>
Amen.
Deliverance is always possible with God. If you’re in a season of fighting something in your spirit, keep praying. Keep returning to Him. The same God who freed Paul and Silas, who delivered Daniel from the lions’ den, who raises the dead — He is still at work today, and He is not finished with you.
