A prayer for Pentecost — for the day we remember when the Holy Spirit fell on the disciples like wind and fire, changing everything. Whether you’re celebrating in church or sitting quietly at home, Pentecost is an invitation to ask God for more of His Spirit in your life right now.

You don’t need to wait for a special Sunday. The Spirit is available to you today.

A Prayer for Pentecost Sunday

Lord, today we remember the day You kept Your promise. The disciples were gathered, waiting, uncertain — and then You came. Wind. Fire. Languages they’d never learned. Lives that were never the same again.

I want that. Not the spectacle — the reality. The kind of encounter with the Holy Spirit that changes how I live, how I love, and what I’m willing to risk.

Fill me today. Not just with emotion that fades by Monday, but with power, wisdom, and a love for people I couldn’t manufacture on my own. Let Your Spirit in me be a light that points others toward You.

Come, Holy Spirit. I’m asking. I’m waiting. I’m ready.

Amen.

A Prayer to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit

God, I confess that I’ve been trying to live the Christian life largely on my own — willpower, discipline, effort. And it’s exhausting. I know that’s not what You intended.

Your Word says that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. I’m hungry. Fill me with Your Spirit — not just a one-time experience I remember from years ago, but a fresh, daily dependence on You.

Let the fruit of Your Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control — be visible in my life. Not because I’m trying harder, but because You’re living through me.

Teach me to walk by the Spirit, not by my own instincts. And when I drift back to self-reliance, bring me back.

Amen.

What Pentecost Means for You Today

Pentecost isn’t just church history. The same Spirit who fell in Acts 2 is available to every believer today. The apostle Peter said the promise was “for you and your children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:39).

That includes you.

If you feel spiritually dry, distracted, or like you’re going through the motions — Pentecost is the reminder that God hasn’t run out of Spirit. He isn’t rationing. You can ask for more, and He delights in giving it.

“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” — Luke 11:13
