A prayer for broken trust — for when someone you trusted has let you down, and the relationship (and your sense of safety) is fractured. These prayers are for the aftermath of betrayal.
Betrayal is one of the most disorienting experiences in human relationships. It’s not just the act itself — it’s the recalibration afterward. Suddenly you’re questioning what else wasn’t true. The person who hurt you isn’t just someone who did something wrong; they’re someone who revised your understanding of the past.
Praying after betrayal isn’t about pretending you’re not hurt. It’s about refusing to let the hurt calcify into something that damages you more than it damages them.
Prayer After Being Betrayed
Lord, someone I trusted has broken that trust, and I’m struggling to process it. The hurt is real. The confusion is real. The anger is real. I’m not going to minimize it.
But I don’t want to be defined by this. I don’t want the betrayal to become the lens through which I see every future relationship. I don’t want to become hardened or closed off because of what one person did.
Help me grieve this properly. Help me be honest about the damage without exaggerating it. And when I’m ready — in Your timing, not mine — begin the work of rebuilding my capacity to trust again.
Not naively. Not without wisdom. But genuinely.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
Prayer When You Don’t Know If You Can Trust Again
God, I know I should be able to move forward but right now trust feels impossible. The walls that went up after this happened feel necessary — protective. And I don’t know how to lower them.
I’m not asking to trust blindly. I’m asking for wisdom to know who is trustworthy and who isn’t. The discernment to distinguish between healthy caution and the kind of closedness that keeps love out entirely.
And be the one constant I can trust without reservation. While human trust is unpredictable, You are not. Anchor me in that while I find my footing again.
“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.” — Psalm 125:1
